Chapter 301 - 249: Work
Chapter 301 - 249: Work
Jeff volunteered to handle the livestock transportation. After all, he was the one who could talk to the North Slope Petroleum Company.
The number of animals that needed to be moved was substantial, and relying on ordinary transportation methods would be a real struggle.
Feng Shan, however, knew that the North Slope Petroleum Company had a CH-54 helicopter.
That thing was ugly as sin, but its cargo capacity was immense.
A regular helicopter wouldn’t have been able to transport that many animals.
Before leaving the Horned Ranch, Feng Shan secretly used the Beast Taming Technique on Cigar.
Cigar’s personality flaws were, after all, congenital. The ranch hands had tried all sorts of methods before without success. As for whether the Beast Taming Technique could fix its issues this time, Feng Shan was just giving it a shot.
Cigar had been casually chewing hay off to the side. When it suddenly felt this strange power, its body trembled slightly, but it quickly returned to normal.
But its big eyes seemed to hold a new kind of light. It lifted its head to look at Feng Shan and affectionately nuzzled his hand, as if their bond had grown even stronger.
Feng Shan gently stroked Cigar’s head and said with a smile, "You have to be good for the next few days. They’re going to take you to the Crown Territory, and we’ll see each other again then."
HUFF!
Cigar snorted a few times and shook its head, as if to say it would definitely behave.
Loki suddenly flapped its wings and flew onto Cigar’s head. Its little claws gripped the horse’s mane tightly as it mimicked Feng Shan’s tone, "Be good, be good."
"You’re the chatty one. Let’s go!"
Seeing Loki’s mischievous antics, Feng Shan couldn’t help but laugh and curse playfully. He gave Cigar’s head one last gentle pat, then turned and boarded the tour cart nearby.
The tour cart started up slowly and drove away from the Horned Ranch, seen off by Manager Tushen and a group of ranch hands.
At that moment, White Bird was leaning against his taxi, smoking, his eyes fixed on the ranch’s main gate.
The moment he saw the tour cart emerge from the gate, he immediately threw away his half-finished cigarette, hurried over, and pulled open his taxi door, ready to welcome Feng Shan.
After getting off the tour cart.
After getting off the tour cart, Jeff looked like he wanted to say something but was holding back. He frowned slightly and his lips moved, as if he had something to say but was having second thoughts.
Feng Shan noticed Jeff’s strange behavior at a glance. He walked up with a grin, put an arm around Jeff’s shoulder, and spoke in a teasing tone.
"Buddy, if you’ve got something to say, just say it. Why are you being so hesitant?"
Jeff hesitated for a moment before finally gritting his teeth and mustering the courage to speak.
"Chief Welta hopes you can pay a visit to the Wild Bull Tribe."
After speaking, Jeff looked at Feng Shan with a flash of worry in his eyes. He didn’t know why Chief Welta wanted to see Feng Shan, after all. He only knew that the Chief’s expression had been very serious, and he had demanded that Jeff invite Feng Shan to the Wild Bull Tribe no matter what.
Feng Shan was slightly taken aback. The smile on his face faded a little as he quietly wondered.
’Chief Welta wants to see me all of a sudden?’
’I’ve had some dealings with the Wild Bull Tribe, but our relationship isn’t what you’d call especially close.’
’But then again, he did give me a P-750. That was a pretty hefty gift.’
’For that alone, I should accept the Elder Chief’s invitation. It’s not a big deal to meet him, and no matter what, I should give him the courtesy.’
And so, Feng Shan quickly made up his mind. He looked up at Jeff.
"Since the Chief invited me, of course I have to go. I’ll make a trip after the award ceremony is over."
"Great. I’ll tell the Chief the good news right away."
Jeff broke into a happy smile upon hearing his answer.
After they had agreed on a time, they waved goodbye to each other.
...
「Leaving Mackenzie Town.」
By the time he took the ferry back to Anchorage, the sun had set.
Standing at the hotel entrance, Feng Shan took out a wad of cash to thank White Bird for driving him around all day.
After all, White Bird made his living driving a taxi, and every penny he earned was hard-earned money. Whether Jeff had compensated him or not was none of Feng Shan’s business; he believed in keeping things separate.
When White Bird saw the money, he quickly tried to refuse it.
But Feng Shan was insistent, forcing the money into White Bird’s hands.
’If you receive a service, you should pay for it. It’s not like I’m short on cash, and this builds some goodwill.’
Seeing he really couldn’t refuse, White Bird had no choice but to reluctantly accept the fare. He patted his chest and promised that as long as Feng Shan was in Anchorage, he was on call whenever he needed a car.
Feng Shan then waved goodbye to White Bird and turned to enter the hotel. He had a simple, complimentary dinner and went to bed early.
...
The Far North Tundra: a frozen, forgotten corner of the world, tightly gripped by the long polar night.
Here, darkness spread wantonly, like a boundless black net cast over the entire tundra. Not a single sliver of light could penetrate it, as if daylight would never again grace this land.
The extreme cold, at forty degrees below zero, turned this place into a cruel, white purgatory.
The ground was long since covered by thick layers of ice and snow, as hard as forged steel. A single step would produce a CRUNCHING sound.
And the frigid wind, like a demon, assaulted every inch of the land without restraint.
It howled and surged, carrying a bitter chill as it tore across the vast tundra.
Everywhere it went, it kicked up a fog of snow, like great white waves churning and roiling in the dark. It blotted out the sky, making the already dim polar night even more chaotic and obscure.
A group of tourists from the Crown Territory was struggling forward through the blizzard.
The hiking party consisted of only six or seven people, all of them from the south. They had never seen such cold and harsh weather before.
