Chapter 26, The Wall of the Heart Unfolds
Chapter 26, The Wall of the Heart Unfolds
The black sedan floored the accelerator and drove towards Longgang.
"So, that woman was found by one of your boss's demons before you could," Cheng Chen said lazily, his eyes half-closed, as he sat comfortably in the back seat with Hui Ya. "It seems your boss doesn't really trust you."
Lu Kai was driving obsequiously: "Sir, I'm just a lowly soldier working for the boss, I don't know him at all, and I have absolutely no idea what he's up to."
"I know you're in a hurry, but don't rush."
Cheng Chen glanced at him through the rearview mirror with a half-smile. "Think positively. Your boss has a lot of skilled men under him. What if my sister and I are just being reckless and going to our deaths?"
"Sir, you jest. I always judge things by their merits, not by their personalities. I'm simply speaking the truth, standing on the side of justice and morality."
Lu Kai didn't dare reveal any of his thoughts; he just kept trying to please her, licking her even harder than Bai Guo.
As Huiya watched the scenery outside the car window recede into the distance, she seemed preoccupied from the moment she boarded the car, not even reacting when Cheng Chen called her "little sister."
"Did you have a fight with your grandma?" Cheng Chen asked casually.
Before Huiya could speak, Lu Kai's expression turned bitter. He quickly found his earphones, put them in his ears, and turned the music volume up to the maximum.
The black-clad magical girl remained expressionless, her eyelashes fluttering slightly: "No, I'm just nervous... I just can't quite figure out how things will go next."
At first, she simply wanted to save Qian Yinyin.
But she had no time to breathe and think. The sudden public opinion, the tense atmosphere in the company, the questioning and ridicule from Gao Xiao and others, and just as she was preparing to accept the punishment for her recklessness, Cheng Chen took her away from that oppressive and suffocating atmosphere.
It was less of an investigation and more of a relaxation trip.
The tension between anxiety and relaxation kept pulling her apart, and before she could find a balance, she was immediately entangled with an unknown "boss".
The boss and his demonic henchmen, the girl bought by the fake Holy Altar Disaster Relief Hospital, Qian Zhen who was abruptly kidnapped... it's as if they've suddenly been drawn into a shocking case shrouded in darkness.
She was almost at her wits' end, wondering what she should do.
Since leaving the company, I have simply followed Cheng Chen's advice without any action.
"Relax."
Cheng Chen put her hands behind her head, closed her eyes and didn't look at her. "When you become an idol and actually stand on the stage, the gaze and doubts you will face will be much heavier than they are now. You need to get used to this kind of pressure in advance."
Huiya turned to look at him with displeasure, biting her lower lip: "Didn't I say? I don't want to become an idol."
"You just don't want me to encourage you; you never said you didn't want to be an idol."
"Now I'll tell you. Producer, I have no interest in becoming an idol, nor do I have the talent to become one, and I'm not even a qualified magical girl. Becoming an idol trainee was completely forced upon me. I was just flying in the sky after transforming when I was dragged into the company and forced to sign a contract."
Huiya clenched her hands on her knees. "After things are over today, please stay away from me. I will behave myself and not cause any more trouble for the company or you."
Cheng Chen was somewhat dissatisfied and opened his eyes to look at her: "You've met that adjudicator who was picking on you, so you should know what 'Witch's Judgment' means."
"Know."
Huiya nodded. "I will be executed, I will die."
She suddenly felt a sense of relief and liberation: "Actually... I don't like magical girls. I just used them almost as a form of catharsis after I accidentally gained power."
"Thinking about it carefully, being targeted by the Black Judge, being marked with a special symbol by the association, and being forced to sign a trainee contract with the company, isn't it all because I don't fit into the term 'magical girl'? Magical girls are a group, and a group cannot allow inferior individuals to tarnish the group's reputation, which I can understand."
Cheng Chen asked, "What about your grandmother?"
Huiya gave Cheng Chen a cool, faint smile: "It is said that before the trial, someone will use magic to erase the traces of my existence in the world. Grandma is doing well, and not having to worry about me might even make her more relaxed."
She paused for a moment, her expression suddenly becoming very serious, and stared into Cheng Chen's eyes as she said:
"Producer, don't try to be a pushover and pity me. I'm just forcing myself to accept the status quo, hypocritically enduring a job I don't like. This kind of thing is wrong to begin with; I won't feel happy, and the company will waste its energy on me. If I offend other people and end up making things difficult for myself, it's really not worth it... Don't you agree?"
thump.
Suddenly, Eya was hit on the forehead, and she clutched her forehead in pain.
Thanks to her enhanced vision after the transformation, she didn't even realize how Cheng Chen had attacked her and given her a sharp rap on the head.
"Self-righteous and loves to deceive himself."
Cheng Chen withdrew her finger. "I understand you a little better now."
"you!!"
Two tears welled up in Huiya's eyes. She was speaking to him very seriously and giving him advice, but he didn't seem to care at all.
"If you don't want to be an idol at all, why are you so serious about courses like etiquette, dance, and vocal music?" Cheng Chen asked her in return.
"That is..."
Huiya opened her mouth, then lowered her voice: "I'm just a prisoner who was captured, but the company pays me a very high salary. I haven't made any contributions, so I feel uneasy taking this money and should be more obedient."
Classic examples of people who can't process information properly and then spout nonsense.
If she were truly obedient, she wouldn't be sitting in this car with Cheng Chen right now.
Huiya knew that her words were not convincing, so she turned her head away.
"Producer, I don't want to argue with you."
This is the hedgehog preparing to unfurl its defensive shell, refusing to communicate or interact.
But Cheng Chen didn't let her go. He forcefully grabbed Huiya's soft cheeks with both hands, making her look at him: "Since you feel guilty, then obediently repay the company's contributions with your body. Don't think you can escape by participating in the 'Witch Trial'."
The black magical girl's face flushed instantly, and she showed a disgusted expression, forcefully slapping Cheng Chen's hand away.
"abnormal!"
Cheng Chen stopped, satisfied, and nodded. "Keep this feeling. If you use this expression when performing on stage in the future, you might become even more popular."
As they spoke, the black sedan drove off the main road, and more trucks appeared on both sides of the road, making the whole road gray and hazy.
The road is flanked by a continuous stretch of railings, and the gray-white steel structures crouch deep within the factory area, devoid of any aesthetic appeal.
Lu Kai stepped on the brake, took off his headphones and rubbed his ears, which were sore from the blast of the loud volume. He turned to the back seat and said, "Sir, we've arrived. This is the place my boss told me to meet up with after I catch the person."
Two people stood in the shadow of the factory's huge rolling shutter door.
Seeing the car pull in and stop, one of them walked over.
Lu Kai got out of the car and greeted someone across the street, "Secretary Ding."
"Um."
Secretary Ding glanced at him coldly, then looked into the car, but the one-way window blocked her view, so she couldn't see clearly.
Why aren't the people on the bus getting off?
"They... hi." Lu Kai stammered for a moment, then immediately asked, "Where's the boss?"
"The boss?"
Secretary Ding grinned, revealing his bloodshot teeth. "A traitor who brought an outsider here, does he even deserve to see the boss?"
Lu Kai's expression changed drastically.
The next second, a foul stench swept over him. Something seemed to wriggle in Secretary Ding's chest, suddenly tearing open his skin and covering his entire body. Underneath the swollen fur, a huge bat head was revealed, biting down on his head.
Lu Kai felt a blur before his eyes, then he was grabbed by the collar and thrown backward, flying out and crashing to the ground.
He managed to look up and saw that Secretary Ding collided with a streak of dark purple light a few times before they bounced away.
Secretary Ding landed on the roof and licked the bloodstains on her wrist with her tongue.
"Hehehe, it really is you."
After leaping back to the ground, Huiya raised his hands and grasped a cross-shaped spear in each hand.
In the brief encounter, she realized that this demon was far inferior to the "Cold Tide" she had fought before, and was no match for her.
Both being of the same rank, she had been a magical girl for four and a half months, and her magical power was constantly increasing; the other party seemed to have never replenished any magical power after becoming a demon, and was still in the initial stage of 'Shadow'.
The total amount of magic power almost determines the outcome of a battle; this is the first ironclad rule of magical combat!
"Hehehehe, hello! Magical girl!"
Secretary Ding grinned lewdly, "The boss said we need to be fully prepared, so I've been waiting for you since yesterday."
Huiya frowned slightly.
"Where is the woman you kidnapped?" she asked coldly.
"woman?"
Secretary Ding slowly climbed down the factory wall. "Oh dear, this is troublesome, isn't it? They just randomly posted the video online. We naturally got rid of that tactless person. You're welcome; we were quite troubled by it too."
His sharp fingernails sliced through the sheet metal roller shutter like a paper cutter, revealing the scene inside the factory.
Five mutilated corpses lay in pools of blood.
The girl asked about Qian Zhen's stomach, which had been cut open, revealing no trace of her internal organs or flesh. Her dazed eyes remained wide open in fear.
"you!"
Huiya gripped the light spear tightly and unconsciously took a half step back, suppressing the nausea churning in her stomach. It was the first time she had ever witnessed such a cruel scene.
Lu Kai's eyes were filled with despair; the others lying in pools of blood were all his subordinates.
"You're going to silence them."
Secretary Ding scratched his ear impatiently. "You've caused such a big problem, do you think just deducting a month's performance bonus and disqualifying me from year-end performance reviews will make it all worthwhile?"
"Of course, these good-for-nothings aren't the only ones I need to silence. I've gone to great lengths for you, Miss."
A faded magic wand, resembling a harmonica, suddenly slipped from between his fingers, landing on the ground with a clink and bounced twice.
Secretary Ding raised her hand, holding in her palm a delicate gemstone covered with mottled white patterns, resembling a heart.
Layers of magic flowed from the gem, and Secretary Ding's aura began to rise steadily, almost breaking through the boundary of 'Shadow' and reaching a level close to the second stage of 'Ominous Sign'.
"We also have to thank that clueless woman; who would have thought that someone like her was once a magical girl?"
"I gladly accept her wish."
