Chapter 369: Angel and Demon
Chapter 369: Angel and Demon
Vera Xavier wondered if Susan Caldwell had considered the consequences. If Vera couldn’t help Nathaniel Nathan eliminate Trent Thornton, Nathaniel might fly into a rage and kill Susan as well.
’An act so vindictive, yet ultimately self-sabotaging... in the entire world, probably only Susan Caldwell was capable of it!’
Though Vera Xavier’s mind was racing, her hands never stopped. She executed a grappling hold, twisting at Trent Thornton’s wrist. He flicked his hand, sending a Flying Knife hurtling out. She was prepared and dodged aside, causing the blade to shoot straight for Susan Caldwell’s head.
Leo Wright reacted in a flash, tackling Susan Caldwell to the ground in a roll. The knife plunged into his arm.
Trent Thornton hadn’t expected Vera Xavier to dodge his blade. He subconsciously took a step forward, but the moment he exposed himself, a single shot from Nathaniel Nathan tore through his throat. Vera was so close that his blood splattered across her face.
Two more whooshes cut through the air, and Trent Thornton’s two henchmen were killed on the spot.
It all happened in one smooth, flawless motion. The entire sequence took barely a tenth of a second. To an untrained ear, the sounds of the attacks overlapped, making it seem as if a single strike had killed all three men.
It was the first time Vera Xavier had ever seen such a gruesome scene. Her foot slipped on something, and she started to fall.
The ground was covered in broken glass. If she fell, she’d be riddled with cuts.
Alistair Forrest cried out, "Honey, watch out!"
He rushed over to save her as he shouted, but while he was fast, someone else was faster.
A rope dropped from above. Nathaniel Nathan leaped down from it, catching Vera Xavier and pulling her into his embrace.
Alistair Forrest’s arms closed on empty air. He stared, stunned, at the two people now holding each other.
Nathaniel Nathan’s face was smeared with grime, but it couldn’t conceal his handsome features. Having just taken three lives, he radiated a palpable killing intent. He was the perfect embodiment of hot-blooded passion and cold-blooded slaughter.
In his arms, Vera Xavier seemed delicate and graceful. Even stained with blood, her face could not hide its fine beauty.
He couldn’t help but murmur, "A demon and an angel?"
Meanwhile, Susan Caldwell, who was standing next to him, felt her heart pound the moment she saw Nathaniel Nathan. As a woman who had always been a cut above the rest, she rarely found any man worthy of her attention.
Nathaniel’s recent actions—killing three men in quick succession before descending from above with incredible agility—combined with his handsome face, were the ultimate temptation for her.
The only thing that soured the image was that the person in his arms was Vera Xavier.
She felt a pang of regret. ’If only I had known, I would have pretended to fall too. Then he would be holding me right now.’
Vera Xavier looked up at him and saw the fury blazing in his eyes. She knew she had acted recklessly and found she couldn’t meet his gaze.
’She must have guts of steel!’ he fumed internally. ’How dare she fight a drug lord head-on like that? Who gave her that kind of nerve?’
’If I had been a second slower, she could have had her throat slit!’
’Thinking about the danger she was in made him want to throw her on the bed, pull down her pants, and spank her soundly!’
"Captain!" Scott Sullivan ran in. "We’ve already secured the perimeter. The mission is officially over."
