Chapter 89 Dispute
Chapter 89 Dispute
Eloi nodded. "I understand."
Li Ang leaned back in his chair, remaining silent; he had known all along that this would be the outcome.
He suddenly remembered that when he saw the detective this morning, there was a small, inconspicuous wrinkle on the cuff of her trench coat, as if it had been soaked in water and then dried.
It seems the other cell is indeed quite severely flooded.
He picked up the piece of hay that Charlotte had put down on the table, twirled it between his fingers, then put it down and glanced at Helena.
However, the latter paid no attention to him and was trying his best to play the role of a counter.
If it weren't for the test confirming that the other person's memory was normal, Li Ang might have thought that Helena's memory and identity had also been affected by this game.
"I've used up my abilities," Isabella said. "I can no longer verify the truth of your statements. You'll have to rely on yourselves."
"Let's proceed in order." Caltacia straightened up from her chair, placing her hands on the table. "I didn't kill Bridget. I didn't even leave my cell last night. Believe it or not, it's up to you."
She didn't wait for anyone's response and leaned back in her chair.
No one paid any attention.
After all, Isabella, the only one who can see through lies, has already used her ability, so even if someone lies next, she will have no way of knowing.
Lilith's voice was soft, but clear.
"I checked Bridget's identity last night. She's the Arbitrator. Then I didn't sleep all night, but I didn't leave my cell. I didn't hear anything."
Her fingers twisted together under the table, her voice filled with deep self-reproach, "If only I could have found out more..."
Emily, who was standing nearby, quickly comforted her.
Then Eloi spoke.
"I didn't leave my cell last night. The guards didn't appear in my corridor either. I didn't hear any unusual noises."
"Based on the death information discovered by Leon this morning, the murder weapon was formed using shape-shifting abilities. This indicates that the witch possesses the ability to transform parts of her body into weapons."
"This wasn't an ordinary physical attack; it was a supernatural act. Bridget didn't struggle, either because she completely trusted the attacker, or because the attacker's speed exceeded her reaction limits."
"But I tend to think the former. Someone who can make her completely unguarded can only be someone she believes would never hurt her."
After she finished speaking, she nodded slightly, signaling to the next person.
Shirley leaned back in her chair, her hands behind her head.
"I slept very well last night. I didn't leave my cell. I didn't hear a sound." She grinned. "Besides, I'm a free man; you can't kill me by voting. I have no reason to lie."
"What if you are a witch?" Faibel suddenly asked.
Seeing that everyone's eyes were on her, she voiced the question that had been bothering her for a long time.
"Although the winning condition for this game is to vote out and execute the witch, if the witch is Sherry, then we have no chance of winning."
Upon hearing this, Charlotte immediately realized what she meant.
Sherry's status as a free citizen would make her immune to being voted out and executed. If the other party were a witch, wouldn't only Caltacia's self-destruction before her death be the only way to take her away?
Oh, and Li Ang, you can also choose whether to kill the other party at night.
But if he kills the wrong person, Li Ang will be forcibly executed the next day.
But then she suddenly realized that since the other party hadn't taken any action last night and it seemed there were no side effects, what was the point of his identity token?
So she looked at Li Ang, but the latter quietly took out his identity card and showed her the back without making a sound.
When Charlotte saw her changed identity, her pupils widened slightly, but she quickly returned to normal.
It turned out to be the case.
Is this the side effect of not taking action at night? No wonder this man hadn't said anything earlier.
On the other side, facing everyone's gaze, Shirley scratched her head, her blue ahoge sticking up from being rubbed, and her golden eyes were full of confusion.
"But I'm not a witch." Her tone wasn't so much an argument as it was a statement of a fact that she herself wasn't entirely sure about and needed someone else to confirm.
"I can barely remember what I ate last night, so do you think I could remember how I killed someone?"
"It's not a matter of remembering or not, but about the victory conditions for this game." Fibel was completely unaffected by Sherry's strange train of thought.
Caltacia spoke first, "You mean we have to vote her out today? No. We can't. The rules say free people aren't executed. Even if everyone votes for her, she won't die."
"What should we do?" Isabella's voice came from the corner.
"Two possibilities," Aloy adjusted his glasses. "First, Sherry isn't a witch. We worried for nothing. Second, Sherry is a witch. In that case, the only way to kill her isn't by voting."
"If it's not a vote, then what is it?" Emily asked softly.
"Caltasia's duelist ability allows them to take someone down with them when they're executed." Aloy's gaze shifted to Leon. "Or, Leon could make his move at night."
All eyes turned to Li Ang.
"So you want me to take a gamble?" Li Ang asked.
"It wasn't you," Boudica spoke first. "Even if Sherry really was a witch, killing her only makes you the new witch. Unless you're willing to reveal your identity the next day, the game will continue."
Li Ang's abilities are too limited; if he's not careful, he could either be voted out and executed or become the new witch. No one expected him to kill the witch at night.
However, what they didn't know was that Li Ang's abilities had changed at this moment.
"What would happen if someone voted for you? Would the vote be invalidated? Or would nothing happen, and would a new vote be held?" Charlotte asked at this point.
Shirley thought for a moment, then took out her ID card from her pocket, turned it over and looked at it. "Nothing should have happened."
Caltacia had a sudden inspiration. "Why don't we give it a try? When we vote later, everyone votes for Sherry. Let's see what happens."
"No," Isabel's voice was urgent and firm. "If she's not a witch, we've wasted a vote, and the witch will kill another person tonight. We can't afford to lose."
"What if she's a witch?" Boudica countered.
"If she's a witch, we won't die even if we vote for her, so it's a waste of an opportunity," Faibel said coldly.
"Then what do you suggest we do?" Boudica glared at her. "You were the one who first suggested this possibility!"
"I'm just assuming," Faibel said without changing his expression.
Seeing the air around the round table growing increasingly heavy, Li Ang spoke up: "Enough."
Everyone fell silent for a moment.
