Chapter 502 - 501: Give the Ring Back to Him
Chapter 502 - 501: Give the Ring Back to Him
Bella Acker was suddenly grateful for the dim lighting here, at least this way Damian couldn’t see the tears on her face, allowing her to retain the last shred of dignity.
Damian Sinclair watched her trembling frail shoulders, desperately wanting to rush forward, disregarding everything, and hold her in his arms.
To tell her, he didn’t want to care about anything anymore! To hell with the hatred, to hell with the enemy’s daughter, to hell with the life-and-death struggles, to hell with the pregnancy!
He just wanted to hold his little woman tightly, never letting her be sad or cry again.
But he was not that selfish kind of person, and now she was so fragile it seemed as if his arms, just by embracing her, could break her instantly.
Damian Sinclair gritted his teeth, the veins on his forehead throbbing and bulging.
Bella Acker took a deep breath to suppress the sadness in her heart, finally loosening the fingers she had been tightly clenching, removed the ring she was wearing, and said softly, "Damian, this is the ring you put on me, you said it was our engagement ring."
The sweetness and happiness from that time were still vivid, as if they happened just yesterday. But in the blink of an eye, everything changed dramatically, and it seemed they could never go back to how things were.
Bella Acker wiped her tears with the back of her hand, then continued, "I’m giving it back to you now, hoping... hoping that my presence hasn’t been a burden to you. Actually, it has been, I’m sorry."
Damian Sinclair saw the ring she extended towards him, his eyes suddenly narrowed, emotions surged within them—anger, astonishment, violence, pain, a mix of complex feelings that left him at a loss for how to respond.
He was making an effort, even considering throwing everything aside to be with her, and yet her?
While he was tormented inside, she had already decided to retreat first.
Bella Acker, noticing he hadn’t reached for the ring, hesitated for a long moment before finally raising her head to look at him.
Damian Sinclair’s expression had returned to the usual impassiveness, as if the emotions that had just been swirling in his eyes were merely an illusion.
Damian asked, "Why?"
Bella Acker was taken aback, not understanding what he meant by that.
Damian Sinclair said, "Why did you take down the ring and give it back to me? Why did you leave before I gave you an answer?"
Why? Because hatred cannot be erased, because... because he already had a fiancée, because he was going to be a father, because he might soon marry another woman, and what about her?
In what position should she continue to wait? Ex-girlfriend? Former fiancée? Or his secret lover after marriage, or perhaps the mistress who can never be seen?
She couldn’t do it.
After knowing he had slept with another woman, her heart felt as if it was punched through, cold wind pouring through, causing pain that nearly took her breath away.
Let alone that there was already a child between them.
She couldn’t bear to watch him marry another woman, even less to watch him become an irreplaceable good father holding a child with another woman.
She was so heartbroken she couldn’t even bring herself to wish him happiness.
Bella Acker clutched the ring, her head lowered, her face already streaming with tears.
Damian Sinclair took a step closer, coldly demanding, "Answer my question."
Bella Acker instinctively took two steps back, blurting out, "Because you already have a child with another woman." As soon as she spoke, carrying accusation and grievance, she realized she wasn’t as strong as she thought she was.
